(Media release)  — The 20th Annual Pahoa Holiday Parade commences at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 in old Pahoa Village.  The colorful and notably unique parade that highlights the diverse and eclectic community of Puna will maintain its usual route along Pahoa Village Road to the Pahoa High and Intermediate School for a Ho’olaulea that will feature island fare and entertainment. Before and after the parade, residents and visitors are being encouraged to dine and shop locally, and many of the businesses will be planning specials and incentives that day.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Keiki and Kupuna Holomua (Moving Forward).  Grand marshal will be Jan Ikeda, who, this year, celebrates 60 years in business in Pahoa, running Jan’s Barber Shop.  A tribute to Vic Beardsley, Puna’s longstanding Santa Claus who passed this year, is also expected.

Motorists should note that Pahoa Village Road, also known as Old Government Road, the main street through Old Pahoa Village, will be temporarily closed for the Pahoa Holiday Parade from approximately 9:30 am to noon. The road closure will be from Apa’a Street (also known as Rubbish Dump Road) to Ka’ohe Homestead Road (the intersection leading to the Pahoa High and Intermediate School). Parade participants are to line up along Apa’a Road, entering from Ka’ohe Homestead Road.

To participate in the Pahoa Holiday Parade, pick up and drop off entry forms at Jeff Hunt Surfboards, 15-2883 Pahoa Village Road, or call (808) 965-2322 to have your entry form emailed. The deadline to submit entry forms for participation in the parade is Wednesday, Dec. 1.

    Geez…

I wonder if Blas will come before Naeole now that he is the incoming councilman

I sure hope Naeole keeps her priorities straight as she is going out of office and doesn’t make issue with manini things.

    FWIW -

The deadline for the Keaau Lighted Parade is Saturday, November 13th.

I was honored to be asked to be a judge for it.

Will Santa need a ‘Hummer’ with a mounted ’60 to protect him from the poor kids of Pahoa?

Watch out for those roadside bums!

This practice of bringing symbols of war and aggression and not peace and protection to the Christmas Parade is crass. Especially in Sacred Pahoa!!

Just as Santa would be out of place at the armed forces day charade…I mean parade.

    Hope not again.

    Damon,
If you like, for the Pahoa Holiday Parade, you can help my girlfriends coordinate the karaoke booth ???
Seriously, though, if you can sing, we will be offering karaoke Christmas caroling.
The Pahoa Holiday Parade is a can’t-miss occasion! Participate somehow, some way. Got a classic car? EMAIL ME. Want to enter a float or walk in the parade? EMAIL ME. Want to karaoke Christmas carols? EMAIL ME.
Incidentally, how do I get the Kea’au parade folks to send me a press release? I would like to officially announce the festivities, after all.
As for your curiosity as to whether or not Blas will come ahead of Naeole in the parade, I have no idea how that is going to work? Will Naeole want to be in the parade is the question. She and Blas could ride in his Corvette together, that would be something.
I think we should definitely feature the Pahoa Daggers and the Puna Panthers, and I really hope that the community will put together a nice commemorative float to the late Vic Beardsley. I’m also excited to see Jan Ikeda in the limelight. She is such a neat person from what I can tell. I admire her so much for having a business in Pahoa for 60 years. That is some true resilience. In any case, it is definitely going to be a special 20th Annual parade. Hopefully you can involve yourself somehow.

    Tiff,
I also thought it would be a wonderful thing to see Fred and Emily riding together in the parade! Not that I’ll see it in person, I will be in Eastern Canada freezing my backside off! If it does happen, a great statement on both their parts, and a photo to do Puna proud!

  • Dwight Kondo Says:

    OK

    A rare compromise:

Let Fred and Emily ride in the Hummer with the 60.

Someday, this will be a common practice for all public
servants as the peoples’ displeasure grows amidst exploding disparity.

    Joke?

    Happy Holy Days!

  • Pat Says:

We’re new to Pahoa area and looking forward to the parade. We live too far away to walk, will there be parking somewhere?

    Thanks!

    Pat
