(Media release) — Today the Hawaii State Senate approved a civil union measure (SB 232 SD1 HD1). The legislation now goes to Gov. Neil Abercrombie, who has 10 legislative days (after transmittal and excluding weekends, holidays, and recess days) to sign the measure.  Following the bill’s passage, Governor Abercrombie issued the following statement:

    Gov. Neil Abercrombie

“I have always believed that civil unions respect our diversity, protect people’s privacy, and reinforce our core values of equality and aloha.

“I appreciate all the time and effort invested by those who shared their thoughts and concerns regarding civil unions in Hawai‘i.  This has been an emotional process for everyone involved, but that process is now ended.  Everyone has been heard; all points of view respected.

“For me, this bill represents equal rights for all the people of Hawai‘i.”

A media advisory regarding details on bill signing for SB 232 SD1 HD1 is forthcoming.

This should prove, yet once again, how all the good “god” loving catholics really hate their fellow human beings.

  • Jerry Carr Says:

This is a great step forward for equality in Hawaii, and I applaud all who made it possible. This will also be good for our tourist business because many couples will have a new reason to come to Hawaii.

  • Harry Samelson Says:

I’ll enjoy this for a day, then it’s on to marriage. There’s no such thing as almost equality.

As a traditionalist in personal life, I approve of this long overdue step. Ancients might wonder what this is all about. We are a step closer to equality reality.

    Take that ex-governor Lyndy.

  • Pete Altomare Says:

    Indeed, Hugh.

I don’t mean to piss people off but I know this will. First I don’t care about civil unions unless I wanted to leave all of my belongings to my pet parrot because my child pissed me off. Now it’s legal I can hook up with a goat sign some papers and tell my blood relations to go to Hell I’m in love with this goat. It’s us against the world and you traditional people can kiss my ass.

It’s all OK with me except that I never got to vote on it. I’m now being told that this is the way it is so like it or lump it.

    The lack

  • Pete Altomare Says:

Pets, parrots or goats or whatever are not eligible.
Just 2 human beings using their constitutional rights.

  • Doc Says:

Congratulations, I’m sure you and your goat will be very happy. I don’t care who people love, as long as they love someone.

Did your grandfather get to vote when they ruled to allow women to vote?

Did your great great grandfather vote to end slavery?

Just reinforcing those infamous words “…that ALL men are created EQUAL…..”

No need to resort to the religious use of the animals however.
