(Media release) — Hometown favorite, John Cruz, headlines for the first time at the Palace Theater in Hilo, HI on Jan. 25, 2014. This benefit event will also feature an opening set with Alexander Nelson, local rock band, Terrapin Station and aerialist performances from the HICCUP Circus round out this evening of stellar entertainment.
Puna Benefit for Life was formed in 2013 with the intention of assisting oncology patients in Puna with the often unexpected and overwhelming costs involved with cancer. Organizers of the group were inspired by the incredibly gifted lead singer of Terrapin Station, Stacey Tucker, who is on a personal journey with a rare type of endocrine cancer. Stacey will be performing with Terrapin Station during this event.
Proceeds from this concert are being raised to help Stacey with her medical bills and specialized tests that are not covered by insurance. Many of these treatments and tests require travel to Oahu, California, and New Orleans to meet with her oncologist who specializes in her rare type of endocrine cancer. A busy mom of three beautiful young daughters and an art teacher, Stacey is a strong leader in the East Hawaii community who inspires many with her strength, community leadership and huge compassionate heart. Advance tickets are available for $25 at the Palace Theater box office M-F 10 am-3 pm or purchase via credit card remotely by phone (808.934.7010) during box office hours. If available, tickets can also be purchased at the door for $30.
Local hero John Cruz is well-loved throughout Hawaii, and many of his songs from his hit album “Acoustic Soul” are now radio classics, such as Island Style, Sitting in Limbo, and Shine On.

Nelson is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist who performs regularly with Walking Spanish and other collaborations at Phil Lesh’s (Grateful Dead bassist) new music venue, Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA. Walking Spanish’s music can be found on iTunes, Spotify and Soundcloud and on radio stations throughout the West Coast.
