Kona News — Who Will Replace Rep. Denny Coffman?

denny coffman greyRep. Denny Coffman, of Kona, announced just before the holidays he will be vacating his seat due to family matters.  What will become of his seat?

Hawaii County Democratic Party chairman David Tarnas told Big Island Chronicle there has been a call for applicants among all members of the Democratic Party in good standing who reside in District 5. Anybody who meets those requirements needed several Democratic Party members to sign their nomination forms that needed to be submitted by Dec. 20. Next, the District Council of the Hawaii Democratic Party is expected to interview applicants and then pass on three proposed replacements to the governor via the state chair of the Democratic Party.

“The governor has quite a bit of time to make his decision” said Tarnas, adding,  “I’m sure he is getting lots of encouragement to name somebody before the session starts.”

He was replaced by Gov. Abercrombie more than 24 hours ago by Ka’u doctor Richard Creagan. He seems to have a neat and varied resume. Other two finalists were not identified.
