Dear lawmakers,
The Pahoa community has formed the Pahoa Booster Club to support all Pahoa regional school athletics.  Our immediate goal is to support the Pahoa High and Intermediate School’s quest to restore a football program.
The capital expenditure start-up costs are estimated to be $80,000 and the annual operational costs are estimated to be approximately $15,000.  We have commitments from key corporations in our community — Ormat, or Puna Geothermal Venture; Kapoho Kine Adventures; and Island Naturals — and this board is prepared to solicit donations from others to help sustain the football program after its initial startup.
Pahoa Booster Club has the full support and commitment of the administration and athletic department of the Pahoa High and Intermediate School.  We have the support of at least one of our area charter schools, Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences Public Charter School.
We also have the support of our lower Puna representatives, Sen. Russell Ruderman, of District 2, and Rep. Faye Hanohano, of District 4, and also Puna Councilman Greggor Ilagan.
We are seeking from the Senate Ways and Means Committee and the House Finance Committee the funding to start up this program. We have a commitment from Rep. Hanohano to include this initiative in her capital improvement project list.
We kindly ask for you to provide funding to support Pahoa High and Intermediate School’s football program startup costs.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Kramer, Jon Olson, Ned Harris, Darlene Bee, Tim Stanton, Jimmy Brown, Nani Berinobis, Lillian Salazar, George Salazar, Kaipo Like, Mike Kaleikini, Kaleo Francisco, Madie Greene, Mark Hinshaw, Faye Hanohano, Leslie K.J. Julian, Tiffany Edwards Hunt, and Shawn Correa Doll
cc U.S. Senators Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono, U.S. Representatives Colleen Hanabusa and Tulsi Gabbard,  Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Lt. Gov. Sean Tsutsui, Big Island delegation of the State Legislature, Mayor Billy Kenoi, Hawaii County Council, Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi, Hawaii High School Athletic Association, National Football League, all Pahoa regional schools
