A 23-year-old man fell 80 feet trying to climb down a cliff to a beach in Pepeekeo today. Fire rescue personnel say around 11:30 a.m. they responded to a report that the man was unresponsive on the beach. Four of the man’s friends had witnessed the fall.
Fourteen minutes after receiving the call, the first unit was on scene. Rescue personnel rappelled down the cliff off of Loa Road. Rescuers prepared the man for transport in the fire department’s helicopter to an ambulance waiting nearby.
