Politics — Briefly, About The Malama O Puna Forum Last Night

Last night I went to the Malama O Puna forum for Hawaii County Council District 4 forum, to see and hear from the candidates in that race, knowing that, depending upon the will of the voters, I will be potentially be working very closely with one of them. That is my desire, to work well with whoever is elected to the other Puna seat, in order to most effectively represent this area in which we cross district lines everyday.
The topics at the forum:
Invasive species
And then there were questions from the public. People asked the candidates what they can do to address the challenges associated with education and lack of jobs. They were quizzed on how well versed they were on geothermal impacts in the residential area surrounding our existing geothermal plant. They were asked whether they would support an alternate route into and out of Puna, whether they supported drone technology, and if they would pursue initiatives to help the homeless and domestic violence victims.
The rain poured and, due to a double booking at the Pahoa Community Center, the forum was in the breezeway. But a crowd of at least 50 people hung in there for most of the three-hour venue, and attempted to listen to the candidates’ responses, some of which were more audible above the rain than others.
