Puna News — Pahoa Community Center To Open As A Shelter

(Media release) —

Pahoa Community Center will open as a shelter at 8 PM this evening, Sunday August 10, for persons displaced by storm damage. As with all shelters, bring bedding and provisions for you and your family. No pets are allowed in this shelter. All Pahoa Community Center activities are cancelled for today and tomorrow, Monday August 11.

The Pahoa Pool will also remain open 24 hours for residents to take showers and charge cell phones. The pool is not open for swimming.

Meanwhile, As part of the massive coordinated effort to help restore power to Hawai‘i Island customers as soon as possible, Hawaiian Electric on O‘ahu is sending equipment, materials and crews to Hawai‘i Island.
All Department of Education Public Schools, with the exception of Waiakea High School will be open Monday August 11. For information about private school and charter school closures, please contact the school directly.
