Election Results

The Hawaii Elections Commission Web Site now says it was updated at 8:38 p.m. last night; though the printouts still are still dated “August 9,” they appear to show some new results.   Brian Schatz is still ahead of Colleen Hanabusa by 1,769 votes, 48.9 to 47.5 percent.  In the battle for Council District 4, Gregor Ilagan now leads Roy Lozano, Emily Naeole and Madie Greene with an absolute majority of 52 percent of the vote, meaning that there will be no runoff election.

Time to call for a whole new election system — without 800 missing ballots, lack of paper paper ballots and some integrity and consistency.

I say start from scratch. Not because Hanabusa lost, as expected, but because voters/citizens have lost faith.

No more County Council people messing up (a la flawed 2012) or political appointees butting into process (AG Louie last week). We need stability, predictability and accountability.

Absolutely, Mike. I have neve used anything but paper and declined at my precinct of 4o years asked if I wished to use a machine. I simply have no trust in them or those who program them …

I don’t know Dave Vetsch of Hawaiian Beaches but felt deeply sorry for him when refused to do machine voting after cuing up to vote Saturday.
