The House Committee on Committee on Ocean, Marine Resources, & Hawaiian Affairs will hold decision making on several measures relating to aquarium fishing and marine life. The bills were previously heard on Wednesday, February 11, and received nearly 4,000 pieces of testimony.
HB511: Prohibits the harassment of persons marine fishing and aquarium fishing. Specifically includes the enforcement of harassment as a duty of a conservation and resources enforcement officer.
HB873: Prohibits the sale of aquatic life for aquarium purposes.
HB606: Establishes a 10 year moratorium on the taking of aquarium fish. Provides assistance, training, and related employment services to workers dislocated by the moratorium.
HB1478: Establishes the Hawaiian Islands humpback whale national marine sanctuary program. Establishes a sanctuary co-manager position. Appropriates moneys.
HB483: Authorizes administrative inspections within the West Hawaii regional fishery management area.
