Episcopalian Canterbury House ['Iolani/etc.] did not foment UH radicals 1960s. Neither did Wesley House up the road in Manoa. UH radicals germinated on campus. For the U.S. to own colonies overseas in 1893 rebuked its own tradition of rebelling vs. its British colonialists in 1776. As Joseph Nawahi 1842-1896 intoned, his Ke Aloha ‘Aina focus after the overthrow was not on the monarchy but on indigenous ownership of land/resources, something which scholar Jon Chinen reprised in Jon’s 2 books on the Mahele of 1848. Nawahi focused on indigenous rights, not on hereditary ranking at birth. Again, to Nawahi, unlike today’s misguided Osorio, Osorio’s so-called cultural basis of native rule, anchored on the mutuality between the commoner & the Mo’i/ali’i, was but an illusion fabricated by the feudal barons. Put simply, the control of both sides of a bargain acquired in such adhesion/manner is not a mutuality but a unilateral dictate. And unlike today’s misguided patriots Osorio/Kekuni Blaisdell, a bigot of a kupuna, our Kaimu native Nawahi wanted to restore hoa’aina power/national authority the correct way, with no distortion of fact/reasoning so pervasive among current revisionists like Osorio/Kekuni Blaisdell. Nawahi’s touchstone was that no such idyllic mutuality existed in olden times — feudal dictatorial rule by hereditary kings was odious to a free republic, which Nawahi advocated. Hawai’i is an occupied Nation of polyglots, not just ethnic Hawaiians. The U.S. won’t give Hawai’i back to its former polyglots, much less a Momi/Flyboi808/Anonymous. Secession from the U.S. won’t do, inasmuch Momi expects the U.S. to withdraw its occupation. No dice, Lehua. The only surefire restoration of dignity to our hoa’aina is a U.S. Constitutional Amendment which recognizes ethnic Hawaiians as an indigenous political class a la American Indians. Hi Anonymous: My apology, I read your comments last nite. I’m sorry for not checing on my past threads. I know Judge Jon Chinen personally, our 1st Uchinanchu federal judge who also wrote his blockbuster book on our hoa’aina nearly a decade ago. My computer is kaput, so I’m on cafe internet time, meaning my composition is truncated for obvious $ reasons. The part that Kauikeaouli/Kamehameha III kept for himself became the crown lands, which he & his successors sold, leased, & mortgaged at will until 1865, when the law was passed freezing the crown lands. The crown lands became part of the public domain after the overthrow 1893. Lunalilo was not an heir to the Kamehameha hereditary line. The legislature chose him to succeed deceased Lot/Kammehameha V in 1873. It’s so strange to see a journalist calling someone a mexican when he doesn’t even know ones true ethnicity. We have always had Nationalist of our Kingdom who know the facts. It is based on Nationalism not racism and the Hawaiian sovereignty movement is reality. You seem to be afraid because you think it threatens every American who lives in Ko pae `aina O Hawai`i.
