(Media release) â€” Ka Makani Theatre at Hawaii Preparatory Academy presents The Wiz, the Broadway musical retelling of Frank L. Baumâ€™s The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz. Performances are at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12, 13, and 14 and at 4 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the schoolâ€™s Gates Performing Arts Center. Â Tickets, which only are available at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The Wiz features all the characters from the original bookâ€”celebrating its 100th birthday this yearâ€”with an urban funk attitude and some modern twists. (Media release) â€” The Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (HPA) presents arguably its biggest and most important production ever, when festival students take to the stage on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. for the â€œThe Grapes of Wrath Suite,â€ a semi-staged concert version of Ricky Ian Gordon’s opera which premiered in February 2007 inÂ St Paul,Â Minnesota.Â Â

The concert will take place at Gates Performing Arts Center on the Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) campus and is free to the public.Â Audience members are encouraged to bring a canned food item as a â€œticket of admission.”Â Â Howard Dicus of KGMBTV-9 will introduce the work.Â Â A pre-concert piano concerto recital will begin at 7 p.m.
